Beware of Scams! Part 3

Updated: Jul 15, 2023

The last blog post entitled "Beware of Scams part 2" got over 200 views, so as promised, here is part 3. Over the last 4 days, a new type of scam has revealed itself, and an old one has confirmed our suspicions. The website we mentioned in part 2 has stopped advertising altogether, so either they are in "getaway mode" after grabbing people's money or they decided to give up or both. As with many scams there is no way to ever know for sure what happened because there is no transparency at all. Either way, you probably don't want to trust your money, personal information to some company that goes out of business in less than 2 weeks.

The new scam that has revealed itself is quite amusing. Ok, so technically it's not a scam but it is definitely a deceptive business practice. There is now a law office advertising itself as a doctor's office. They charge a lot of money to have a lawyer review your medical records and then if the lawyer decides you have a qualifying condition then they will have a doctor sign the certification. This is amusing for a number of reasons. First of all, lawyers are NOT doctors. We know, big shocker. So, for a lawyer to decipher your medical records in a few minutes and actually understand what it all means is laughable. Secondly, let's just say for the sake of argument this lawyer is somehow equivalent to a doctor in interpreting your medical history and seeing if you have a qualifying condition--congratulations, you now have the privilege of paying a lawyer AND a doctor to review your records and to come to the same conclusion!
